When most people think of Guatemala, they assume Spanish is spoken everywhere. But for many Indigenous communities, including the villages EnLevo serves, Q’eqchi’ is their heart language—a rich, beautiful Mayan tongue that has only been written down in the past few decades. Yet, while Q’eqchi’ connects these communities to their heritage, it also limits their ability to engage with a country where Spanish dominates.
